Specialist Notes

First edition ; a very rare and interesting work for the local history of Loreto and the cult of the Madonna of Loreto. § Very rare first edition of this panegyric in praise of the guardian angel. Panegyrics were originally speeches given at festive gatherings of the people and had the characteristic of encomiastic exaltation; subsequently, retaining this nature, they were better identified as orations written to magnify, to flatter, to please, to showcase the art of speaking; they are very similar to encomiums, epitaphs, and eulogies.
