Specialist Notes
On the Spirit is the principal work of the French philosopher Claude-Adrien Helvétius (Paris, January 26, 1715 ? Paris, December 26, 1771), a follower of Newton and Locke. Published in 1758, it earned him fierce criticism for its materialist and sensualist content.
