Specialist Notes
Roald Amundsen (1872-1928), Norwegian explorer, conqueror of both Earth's Poles. His travels produced important & nbsp; geographical and scientific results: he was responsible for the exact location of the northern magnetic pole and was the first to complete the exploration of the South Pole in 1911-1912. With the Norge airship, commanded by Umberto Nobile, he made the polar crossing in 71 hours of flight, from the Bay of the King to Alaska, facing all kinds of weather conditions and dangers. Two years later in an attempt to rescue the airship Italia commanded by Nobile himself, trapped in the ice, he died crashing with the plane near the archipelago of the Svalbard islands. & Nbsp;
