St Petersburg [but Paris, Imprimerie de Crapelet], 1810, 65x46.5 cm; [6] c., [3]-48 p. + 2 engraved plates + 78 plates for the initials AG. Half-cloth binding with hard cardboard covers. Provenance stamp of the Libreria Umberto Saba . The plates, drawn by the author, are copper-engraved by JE Thierry, with the exception of the 2 frontispieces engraved by C. Normand. The first part (of two) is presented here. This copy has some plates showing signs of damp. Otherwise, an excellent copy.

Luigi Rusca (1758-1822), architect, born in Agno in the Canton of Ticino. He served at the court of Catherine II, where, with Quarenghi, he introduced the forms of Italian architecture renewed by classical sources. He built not only in St. Petersburg, but also in Moscow, Astrakhan, and elsewhere. After a brief stay in his homeland, he went to Paris to oversee the publication of this work. He was court architect to Emperor Alexander until 1818 (E.
