Gary Lineker (Leicester, 30 November 1960) is an English footballer who plays as a forward. Considered one of the best British footballers in history, Gary Lineker began his career at Leicester City, with which he made 194 appearances and 95 goals. After a brief period with Everton (30 goals in 41 appearances), Lineker linked his success as a professional to the period between the second half of the 1980s and the first half of the 1990s, in which he wore the shirts of clubs renowned as Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur. In his palmarès he can boast a Spanish Cup, an English Cup, two Charity Shields and a Cup Winners' Cup. With 48 goals scored in 80 appearances he is the fourth best scorer ever for his country behind Wayne Rooney, Harry Kane and Bobby Charlton; at the 1986 World Cup, held in Mexico, he became the tournament's top scorer with 6 goals, becoming the first English footballer to be awarded the Golden Boot. Always with the national team, with 10 goals scored, he is the best scorer ever for his national team in FIFA World Cups. As a professional, he scored 291 goals in 546 official matches between the English national team and club teams.
