Original watercolor on cardboard, 23x31 cm, done as a self-portrait, by Sergio Asteriti, one of the greatest Disney Masters. Sergio Asteriti (1930–2024) was one of the most important and long-lived Disney comics masters in Italy, known for his poetic style and his extraordinary ability to infuse a fairytale atmosphere into Mickey Mouse's adventures. Born in Venice, he took his first steps in the world of animation collaborating with another legend, Romano Scarpa. After a stint in advertising and collaborations with publishers such as Alpe and Bianconi, in 1963 he began his fifty-year association with the weekly magazine Topolino, debuting with the story "Pippo and the Cultural Holiday". Asteriti's style is immediately recognizable for several unique characteristics. His style has often been described as "decorative" and "soft", capable of rendering characters and environments as if they were part of an illustration from another era. Despite having drawn thousands of comic strips, he devoted the vast majority of his output to the world of Mickey Mouse, creating only a handful of stories (about seven) featuring the Ducks. Having passed away at the age of 94 in August 2024, Sergio Asteriti leaves behind a legacy of over 350 stories that continue to enchant readers of all ages.
