Information

Tempera on canvas, 50x40 cm, by Giulio Chierchini, one of the great Disney Masters, illustrating one of the legendary clashes between Scrooge and Donald Duck. Giulio Chierchini (1928-2019) was a historic pillar of Disney comics in Italy, remembered as one of the most prolific and enduring artists of the Genoese school. Chierchini is famous for introducing and perfecting the technique of painted stories. Rather than limiting himself to classic ink drawings and later coloring, he created panels with a painterly effect rich in nuance and depth, which gave the adventures of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck an almost magical, three-dimensional atmosphere. He is responsible for the graphic design of memorable characters such as Anacleto Faina (Donald Duck's irritating neighbor, inspired by an animated character) and the gummy alien Little Gum. Born in Genoa, he began his collaboration with Topolino in 1953, initially as an inker for Giovan Battista Carpi, before becoming a fully-fledged author (artist and often scriptwriter). His career spanned over sixty years, with him publishing stories for Topolino until he was 91, a record of dedication that made him a point of reference for entire generations of readers and colleagues.
