Provenance

The model
Presented to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show in autumn 2003 and, then, in Brescia in 2004 at the start of the Mille Miglia, it’s the first Mercedes-Benz branded Hypercar of the 2000s. The chassis was developed by McLaren that, at the end of the 2000s, won two Formula 1 world championships. At that time Mercedes-Benz held 40% of the shares of the English factory and supplied the engines for the F1 cars of the team led by Ron Dennis. The project is an ensemble of ultra-light components: for the bodywork, the SLR McLaren uses CFK, a material based on carbon fiber, while the body is a mix of carbon fiber and aluminum alloy, with the result of a very light and stiff car, for the benefit of driving a pleasure. Thanks to aerodynamic studies by McLaren, the SLR McLaren is equipped with an F1-derived flat floor, with a rear extractor able to create the so-called ground effect. Another technical peculiarity is the rear spoiler which comes out automatically exceeding 95 km/h, but also has the "air brake" function, like the aeronautical ones: if the speed is too high and the braking is not enough, the spoiler rises 65° upwind, helping to slow down the car. The engine is a powerful supercharged aluminum V8 displacing 5.5-liter, derived from the M155 series and developed by AMG. The Mercedes-Benzsports division technicians managed to reach from this unit 626 hp and a torque of 780 Nm. All this power is delivered by the rear wheels through a five-speed Speedshift automatic transmission with steering wheel controls; the transmission can be set in M (manual), S (Sport) and C (Comfort). The SLR McLaren accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds and only takes 10.6 seconds to reach 200 km/h. Even the top speed has an impressive value for a road car and reaches a 334 km/h top speed.
The car
The SLR McLaren chassis no. WDD193761M001430 went off the line on September 26, 2006 in the Woking plant, the Mclaren’s headquarters, has a little over 40,000 km on the odometer and changed three owners. It stands out exteriorly for the 20" front and 21" rear black wheels exclusively designed, tailored by Kahn, an English company specialized in custom-made wheels. An interesting detail of the car concerns the chassis adopting the KW suspensions, identical to those used on the racing model: the SLR McLaren GT, a vehicle created for the SLR McLaren trophy. The suspensions are adjustable by means of a small screw positioned behind each wheel, in this way it is possible to choose the car's setup according to your driving style. This modification goes all to the driver’s benefit, making the SLR McLaren even more reactive and precise in curve, despite its size. The color is the Crystal Palladium Gray, and it's original, never repainted. Despite being a particularly low car, the underbody is perfect, the famous F1 flat floor, peculiar of the SLR McLaren and does not present any sign or scratch, as well as the front spoiler. The interior is finished in a two tone black/red. The carbon built seats are finished in leather with contrast stitching and are XL size, good to offer excellent comfort when traveling. It is supposed that this could be the only SLR McLaren with this interior color scheme. The car comes with its documentation, with the original delivery sheet, all the interventions made, the checkups rigorously executed in the Mercedes-Benz centers. The installed options are: the mobile phone, the red leather interiors, the SLR McLaren logo on the headrests, the red brake calipers, and the two-color steering wheel.
State of the Art
