Specialist Notes

Corpus of botanical lectures by Michele Tenore, an internationally renowned botanist who was instrumental in the birth and affirmation of modern botany in Southern Italy. Tenore (1780–1861) led the Botanical Garden of Naples for over fifty years, transforming it into a scientific centre of European importance. His research on the flora of the Kingdom of Naples combined scientific rigor with attention to the territory, leaving a lasting legacy in Italian naturalistic and academic culture. The titles present in the work: Treatise on Phytognosy, or exposition of glossology, taxonomy, and phytography (1833); Treatise on Phyto-physiology, or exposition of the structure and functions of vegetables (1821); Universal medicinal flora, and particular flora of the province of Naples (1823); Essay on the medicinal qualities of the plants of the Neapolitan flora (1820).
