Specialist Notes
An important legal treatise on common law (ius commune), widely used in academic and legal circles between the 15th and 16th centuries. The work is attributed to Lanfranco da Oriano (Lanfrancus de Oriano, † c. 1488), a jurist linked to the Brescian tradition and the culture of medieval and Renaissance common law. It is not a "modern" text of positive law, but a practical compilation of legal rules, cases, and procedures, intended for judges and lawyers. The Practica Lanfranci of 1534 is a manual of common law judicial procedure, designed to teach practical methods of conducting a trial, with rules, strategies, and practical cases, intended for legal professionals.
