Coat of arms of Val Camonica engraved in wood on the title page by Veronica Fontana, woodcut decorations, fascicle a2 placed between p. 231 and the index, slight foxing, small restoration on the title page and on leaf +6. Bound with Privilegium to the Most Serene Venetorum Dominio Comunitati, Universitati, et Hominibus Valliscamonicae , Brescia, Policreto Turlino, 1723; Transaction between the most illustrious City of Brescia and Val Camonica , Brescia, Policreto Turlino, 1687; Tax of the Wages of the Infantryman and Trumpet for the office of the Criminal Registry , Brescia, Policreto Turlino, 1724. Binding reassembled in full hard parchment, handwritten title on the spine, slight defects. Ownership notes on the frontispiece dated 1739.
Specialist Notes
This is a rare first printed edition of this collection of Val Camonica statutes, a fundamental document on the law and social life of this part of Lombardy (at the time this volume went to press, Val Camonica was part of the Serenissima Republic, and remained so until 1797). The Val Camonica coat of arms was created by the famous Parma engraver Veronica Fontana (Parma, 1651 – Bologna, 1690).
