Bassano, Remondini di Venezia, 1769. In-8°; full parchment binding with gold title on brown leather label on the spine; pp. (8), 326; engraving by Francesco Cattini on the frontispiece depicting the author, frontispiece printed in red and black with copperplate vignette, 24 plates folded several times, 22 of which at the end of the text, precious woodcut headpieces, initials and tailpieces.

Specialist Notes

Fourth Venetian edition of this interesting scientific text, which addresses topics in physics, astronomy, meteorography, the theory of flying dragons, chemistry, and geology. The work has been translated from English into French and from French into Italian. The first English edition, The Philosophical Grammar, was published in 1735. Benjamin Martin (1704–1782) was a mathematician, lexicographer, and instrument maker, who popularized Newton's thought.
