Specialist Notes
A very rare treatise on ancient chemistry/alchemy, the book is divided into four "stanzas" and a final "cabinet" where the author, after having illustrated in detail the preparation of many secrets and recipes, also deals with the manipulation of the two noble metals , gold and silver, and also precious stones (p. 141): "let's begin the manipulation of gold". The second stanza deals with "mineral means", the third with the calcination of minerals and the last with animals. The work is articulated in the form of a dialogue between Theermic (the master) and Angelic (the student), along the lines of Robert Boyle's Sceptical Chemist of 1661. The author was a professor at the University of Rome and was the founder of the first magazine Italian pseudoscientific. For the historical period in which it was written and published, it is influenced by Paracelsus. First edition. Wellcome IV, 76. Cole 926.
