Antônio Carlos Gomes (Campinas, July 11, 1836 – Belém, September 16, 1896) was a Brazilian composer. He is considered the greatest Brazilian musician of the 19th century, the first New World composer whose music was accepted by Europe, and the only non-European to succeed as an opera composer in Italy during the "golden age of opera," marked by Verdi and Puccini.
