Information

Beautiful letter written by a secretary and signed at the bottom by Cardinal Pacca, two pages, 300 x 210 mm., addressed from Rome, 7 February 1816, to Pisa to a certain Riccardo Vannucchi, perhaps linked to the Vannucchi printing house of the same name.

Specialist Notes

Splendid letter from the famous Cardinal Pacca, famous above all for the edict of the same name issued by Cardinal Bartolomeo Pacca and approved on 7 April 1820 by Pope Pius VII.

The text consists of 61 articles and lists prohibitions and bans, as well as sanctions for those who violate them. Having left the Quirinale in the first days of July, it occurred to me several times to discuss the matter with His Excellency [the Pontiff], but reflecting, after the observations I had made, that He is not too persuaded to accept such dedications, I completely abandoned the thought.
