A silver-mounted sabre with important Persian blade, 1875

length 89.8 cm.
Damask, curved, single-edged blade, cartouches engraved in Arabic along the whole length on the right side, at the base the image of a sheikh with a short inscription, above another cartouche half-moon and star, on the other side also cartouches with inscriptions in Arabic, at the base two large deep marks, one with inscription in Arabic, above Persian coat of arms with sun and lion under crown surmounted by half-moon and star. Small areas damaged by rust. Silver hilt richly decorated and partially nielloed with floral motifs on a granulated background, cross-shaped quillon with langets (on one side slightly open, easy to fix), straight quillons ending with buttoned ball, pommel shaped as a lion's head, remains of chain; leather-covered wooden scabbard (small lacking parts) with three silver foil mounts decorated en suite. Two bow suspension rings. In the cartouche there is a partially deciphered mark: 'amal-i ... 1292' (A work by....1292), which indicates 1875-1876 in the Gregorian calendar.
