Information
The Triumph TR6 PI is one of the most iconic British roadsters of the 1960s and 1970s, produced by Triumph Motor Company as the final evolution of the long-standing sports car series, which included TR2, TR3, TR3A, TR4, TR4A IRS, and TR5. Introduced in 1968, it stood out for its muscular, square-off styling, designed by Karmann, which gave the car a more modern and aggressive look. The PI (Petrol Injection) designation identified the highest-performance version, developed primarily for the European market. It was powered by a 2.5-liter inline 6 engine with Lucas mechanical fuel injection, capable of approximately 150 hp, a remarkable power output for a roadster of the time. Thanks to its relatively low weight (just over 1,100 kg) and rear-wheel drive, the TR6 PI offered very lively performance: it reached a top speed of approximately 200 km/h and accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 8 seconds, making it one of the fastest roadsters of its time. From a technical and stylistic standpoint, it was characterized by: a ladder frame separated from the body, independent front and rear suspension, a sporty cockpit with comprehensive instruments, and a robust and typically "British roadster" line. Total production of the TR6, between 1968 and 1976, was approximately 94,600 units. Of these, the fuel-injected TR6 PI version (intended primarily for Europe) was produced in approximately 8,300 – 8,400 units overall, rarer than the majority of TR6s built which were in fact fitted with carburettor engines for the North American market, making the PI variant decidedly rarer and more sought-after among collectors today.
