Made of cast aluminium, designed by Ralph Lavers , and manufactured by EMI Factories Ltd , High Dury Alloys Ltd. (same design and model as the torches for the London 1948, Melbourne and Stockholm 1956 Olympics)
It has the words CORTINA 1956 VII OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES embossed around the brazier. The torch has a housing in the center of the upper cup that acts as an internal brazier, where interchangeable ignition wicks are inserted for a duration of 15 minutes (wicks not supplied)
It measures approximately 47 cm in height. It shows signs of use from the actual run of one of the torchbearers, but is otherwise in excellent condition. There are no details about the torchbearer who used it.
