dating: Mid 19th Century provenance: Sicily, Wide, straight, parallelly double-edged blade with short fuller and areas damaged with pitting, marked 'BARNES & Co. LONDON' on one side, SicilianTrinacria (symbol of the island adopted as an emblem by the Provisional Government of 1848) at the base, on the opposite side. One-piece brass hilt with pommel shaped as a lion's head. Ancient leather scabbard with brass mounts. Interesting military weapon with rare mark, probably belonging to the brief period of the Provisional Government of Sicily of 1848-1849. It dtrinacrefinitely deserves a proper study.Cf.
