dating: First half of the 19th Century provenance: North India, Double-edged blade with two large fullers divided at the center by a cannelure, probably made of damask; raised, gold-inlaid base with floral motifs. Serpentine (ophite) hilt sculpted with a horse's head, a long horsehair at the back and a high-relieved flower at the base. See a similar hilt in 'Islamic and Oriental Arms and Armour' by Robert Hales, page 32 nr. 75 length 42.7 cm.
