Straight blade of triangular section with hollow sides, engraved and gilt at the base on a blue ground with trophies and floral motifs, and marked “ISB”. Gilt-brass hilt with broad shell-guard depicting an antique scene with three men in armour standing before a fourth, all engaged in a salute, with a brazier at the centre of the scene (Oath of the Horatii?), lion heads at the sides of the shell-guard. Loop-guard decorated with oak and laurel fronds. Pommel in the shape of a plumed helmet. Grip with mother-of-pearl grip scales (small missing parts and restoration). Leather scabbard with gilt-brass mounts.
