Information

Regno di Sardegna
dimensions 5.4 x 8.9 x 2.7 cm.
Finely carved wooden structure, shaped as a parallelepiped and with an arched top, provided with integrated wooden hinges and interlocking closure. On the front, a crowned shield of a celebratory nature, depicting a cross with Moor's heads, interpretable as a compositional variant of the coat of arms of Sardinia, partly concealed by a central coat of arms, all surrounded by an ornamental collar composed of Savoy knots. On the back a female allegory with a heart on her chest and a feathered headdress, surmounted by a winged bust, flanked by a head and a cup, in a civic-neoclassical style. The inscriptions are distributed over several sides: on the front, at the bottom, the inscription CAR·ALBER·D (Carolus Albertus Dei Gratia), while the remaining parts of the royal formula, G·REX·SAR·A·1831 (Rex Sardiniae Anno 1831), are located on the lower side, next to the depiction of an arm holding an element. The motto OPVS PVLCHER is engraved on the back of the top arch, a Latin expression of an epigraphic nature that can be interpreted as “beautiful/valuable work,” intended as a declaration of quality and craftsmanship. Along the perimeter edge, legible in a sequence of several views, is the signature of the engraver “CARLO MANFRINO.” Private commemorative object, executed on the occasion of the accession to the throne of Carlo Alberto. Very good state of preservation, with time patina; minor losses to the hinge closures. Rare.
