Round, smoothbore barrel, with marks ‘RF’, ‘XB’, ‘L’ and “PB” on the breech (there is also another barely-legible elliptical mark), followed by the engraved signature ‘Ent.se Boutet’ (remains). Flintlock with rotating brass pan, plate signed in capital letters ‘MANUF.re A VERSAILLES’ and marked in a rectangle under the hammer spring “BOUTET”; with also an additional oval mark ‘B N °1’. Full walnut stock, butt with cheek piece. Silver mounts (in patina); the counterplate with three marks. On the butt, a silver shield in patina featuring the dedication "Le 1.er Consul au C.en Simon Charnier G.dier a la 3 1/2 B.de de lagne. Le 21 Ge.al sur les hauteurs de Savonne il enfoca avoir plusieurs de ses cama.des une colonne de 600 home qui mise en deroute fut faite pris.ere de guerre". Original iron ramrod. With his certificate of honour for the award of the rifle; on parchment, beautifully preserved and signed by Bonaparte, Hugues Maret and Alexandre Berthier; in a gilded frame and under glass.
