Straight, tipped, single-and short-false-edged blade, with double fuller, featuring the motto “VIVA PIO IX” on the forte among trophies on the right side and engravings of trophies and flowers on the left side. Gilded brass hilt with a large guard decorated in relief with architectural motifs, the main loop-guard decorated in relief and equipped with three other loops ending in curls. The guard has a typical bifurcated end and a lion's head pommel. Brown horn handle with brass wire binding. Black painted iron scabbard with brass mounts and two lugs.
