height as shown circa 85 cm.
Shrimp-tail capeline with rounded skull and ribbed in the centre, two halves joined by rivets. The round frontal brim in one piece with the skull itself is ribbed and worked with notch decorations, with a row of rivets next to the outer border. In the centre, the sliding nosepiece with a beautiful carved and pierced floral top frieze. The stop complete with wingnut screw. The row of rivets, also made of iron, at the base of the skull with remains of old leather strings or fabric lining. The plated cheekpieces, with unroped edges, mounted by rivets on a leather-shaped patch. Three-plated nape-guard, the first is part of the skull, the other two fixed with rivets. Remains of fabric also here. The upper edges of the nape-guard plates with shaped staple borders and double outlines. Inside the helmet, a fine earlier patina. The last plate with hemmed edge with notch decoration. Only one small more recent repair to the inner borders of a nape-guard plate. Two-plated, one-piece neck-collar with neckline. This one with roped border. The outer margin with smooth borders is not roped. Decorated with double outlines. The interior with fine earlier patina and slight traces of leather strings under the rivets. Elegant light breastplate ribbed in the centre, blackened like the rest of the elements, except for the beautiful central medallion engraved to depict the Virgin Mary crushing a dragon (which represents the Devil) surrounded by spirals. The central ribbing, which is also checkered, the beautiful roped cords of the neckline and gussets are also left in the natural metal colour. The double-edged brim is decorated with festooned staple borders and rows of rivets. The lower edge with rope en suite with the other elements. On the back various fragments of old or even earlier lining and leather strings. Apparently only four rivets replaced later. Also here fine old brown patina inside. Backplate with roped cords and simple outlines, two-plated backpiece with straight borders. On the bottom decorative cord. Half brassards with cusped festooned borders and decorated with remains of double outlines. Roped outer borders. The rivets appear to be almost all old, apart from a few replacements in one arm. Black paint refreshed in recent times. Probably Polish (where the Marian cult is particularly popular and Mary is the patron saint) or Hungarian. Elegant and impressive.
