Information

English-language copy of "Notes of a Dirty Old Man," published in 1973 by the historic City Lights bookstore (the beating heart of the Beat Generation), autographed by Charles Bukowski and featuring his famous self-portrait of the drinking man. Charles Bukowski, the cursed poet, gives us "Notes of a Dirty Old Man," a collection of short stories that exude his characteristic misanthropy and cynical worldview. Published in 1969, the work immerses us in the daily life of Bukowski, a man on the fringes of society, an alcoholic and a gambler, who observes the world with a mixture of disgust and resignation. His characters are often losers, alcoholics, prostitutes, and marginalized individuals struggling to survive in a world that has forgotten them. Bukowski's style is unmistakable: raw, direct, and unfiltered. His prose is characterized by foul language, often vulgar, reflecting his view of the world as a dirty and corrupt place. Despite this, there's a subtle vein of poetry and compassion that emerges between the lines, a profound understanding of the human condition and its fragility. "Notes of a Dirty Old Man" is a controversial work that has divided critics and audiences. But its impact on contemporary literature is undeniable, influencing generations of writers. Bukowski, with his brutal honesty and unique vision of the world, gave voice to the marginalized, the forgotten, all those who feel alienated from society.
