Original sketch by Go Nagai on the title page of the book "Dynamic Superobot Wars," published by d/books in 2005. The Japanese master created a handful of sketches for a few lucky fans at the 2007 Naples Comicon; this work is part of that series. Go Nagai (pen name Kiyoshi Nagai) is a Japanese comic book artist, animator, and screenwriter, considered one of the pillars of modern manga. Nagai's work is vast and varied, spanning the mecha, horror, science fiction, and superhero genres. Among his most famous works are Mazinger Z (the first super robot controlled from within by a human, Mazinger Z ushered in a new era in the world of mecha, inspiring countless other series) and Devilman (a dark, psychological work that explores the themes of good and evil, humanity and demonism). In Italy, he is particularly known for being the author of Goldrake, the cartoon produced by Toei Animation from 1975 to 1977 and based on Nagai's manga of the same name, which became an iconic work in the collective imagination of children of the 70s and 80s.
