Information
A literary folio signed by Lawrence Ferlinghetti, published by Sore Dove Press in 2016 and limited to 75 copies. Dimensions: approximately 15 x 15 cm. The sentences are an excerpt from the book “Poetry As Insurgent Art,” selected by Ferlinghetti himself to create a new poem. Lawrence Ferlinghetti was an American poet, painter, and activist, a key figure in Beat literature and postwar counterculture. His work consistently championed “poetry as popular art” and “insurgent art” (as theorized in his manifesto “Poetry As Insurgent Art”), viewing the poet as society’s moral conscience and voice of dissent. “Poetry As Insurgent Art” is a short but incisive essay (often referred to as a manifesto or ars poetica) by Lawrence Ferlinghetti (1919–2021), poet, editor, and co-founder of the iconic San Francisco bookstore and publishing house City Lights. Published in several editions, the text's final form dates back to 2007, but its roots lie in the 1950s and 1970s, when Ferlinghetti was a central voice of the Beat Generation and American counterculture.
