Information
Autographed photo of Jake LaMotta, certified by the JSA and measuring 21.5 x 20 cm (8” x 10”). Jacob "Jake" LaMotta (1921-2017) was one of the most iconic and controversial boxers in history, a champion whose turbulent life surpassed even his successes in the ring in notoriety. Born in the Bronx to a family of Italian (Sicilian) descent, LaMotta developed an aggressiveness and tenacity that made him famous. Nicknamed the "Raging Bull," he wasn't the fastest or most technically gifted, but he made up for it with legendary stamina and unstoppable fury. He won the world middleweight title in 1949, defeating Frenchman Marcel Cerdan. The most epic chapter of his career was his rivalry with Sugar Ray Robinson, considered by many to be the greatest pound-for-pound boxer of all time. The two faced each other six times. LaMotta's most famous defeat was the bloody "St. Valentine's Day Massacre" (1951), where, despite suffering brutal punishment, he stubbornly refused to go down, losing only by technical knockout.
