Franco Vaccari (Modena 1936-2025) combines his interest in photography (his father was a photographer) with those in art and cinema, all elements that will converge in his poetics together with the scientific training obtained with a degree in physics. Always driven to research, he puts it into practice first in the field of visual poetry then in that of communication: this leads him to create works where the logic of the happening and that of performance become tools for that very long work in stages called "Exhibitions in real time" that he pursued throughout his life. Alongside these and other works of action-events, he has developed a theoretical research of which the essay "Photography and the technological unconscious" is the recognized and admired high point.

Invited to Graz to the "Painting Weeks", that is, to spend a month in an isolated location where he was supposed to produce artistic objects, his work was carried out during the outward journey: "I chose to apply my attention to the means of freight transport that moved in the same direction as me. I want to use photography not as a means of contemplation but to unhinge my visual conditioning [...] Once I arrived at my destination, my work was finished".
