L'opera è riferibile a un maestro vicino a Francesco di Ubertino, detto il Bachiacca (Borgo San Lorenzo, 1494 – Firenze, 1557), a cui rimanda l'atmosfera tenebrosa e la sottile inquietudine che pervade le figure. Per un confronto stilistico si veda, per esempio, l'opera di Bachiacca Eva con Caino e Abele, conservata al Metropolitan Museum of Art di New York (inv. 38.178).
