Provenance
Purchased on the Roman antiquarian market in 1976 by collectors Marcello Ranieri and Maria Vittoria Curto and came by inheritance to the current owners.
The painting is attributable to a painter active in Naples in the second quarter of the seventeenth century. The accentuated expressiveness of the face, the firm volume of the forms and the deep chiaroscuro reveal the hand of an original interpreter of Caravaggesque naturalism, close to the ways of Bernardo Cavallino and Andrea Vaccaro. & Nbsp;
In the collection the pantiong, purchased on the Roman antiquarian market in 1976, was ascribed to Nicolò De Simone, active in Naples between 1636 and 1677.
