Palermo, apud hæredes Petri Coppulæ, 1733. In 2°, 420 x 300 mm. 2 vols. Beautiful finely copper-engraved figurative frontispiece with an architectural border populated by figures of Sicilian saints and a small map of the island in the center, wood-engraved views on the title pages, large episcopal coat of arms at the opening of the second volume, a perfect example , contemporary hard parchment binding with red title tag on the spine, blue spray edges.
Specialist Notes
Rare third edition. "Pirro's Sicilia Sacra remained unfinished due to the author's death in 1651 and was intended to contain information on the Cistercian order of Saint Bernard, the Canons Regular of Saint Augustine, and the religious orders of chivalry. Mongitore and Vito Maria Amico decided to complete this work [...] publishing it in Palermo/Venice in 1733" (Moncada lo Giudice 1782).
