Excerpted from volume XLI of Calogera's Scientific and Philological Opuscles , this text presents a text by D'Arthenay, written at the request of the Marquis de l'Hospital. Published in its first French edition in 1748 and subsequently reproduced in Calogera's anthology, it constitutes significant testimony to the discovery of the city of Herculaneum.
