Specialist Notes
Second edition, revised and expanded compared to the first edition of 1775. Nicola Andria, a doctor from Puglia, born in Massafra in 1748 and died in Naples in 1814, was a student of Domenico Cotugno and a professor at the University of Naples for several years. The work was particularly appreciated for the practical implications indicated by the author, such as the establishment of a Prussian blue factory on the island of Ischia due to the presence of a particular alkaline salt in the local Olmitello water. The main part of the treatise is in fact dedicated to the waters of the island of Ischia, while the last two chapters are dedicated to the waters of Castellammare di Stabia and Naples.
