Information
Naples, Stamp. Raimondiana, 1769. In 8°. Elegant frontispiece depicting the Sebeto River, woodcut decorations, very light foxing and reddening, contemporary full hard parchment binding, gold title within a tag, red edges, minor defects.
Specialist Notes
The Sebeto River was dear to Neapolitans and was venerated as the city's protective river deity . Its cult was intertwined with that of Parthenope, becoming deeply rooted in Neapolitan identity. For this reason, although it has now disappeared, it has remained a mythical symbol of Naples' historical and cultural memory.
