Specialist Notes

Vincenzo Semmola (active between 1825 and 1850) was a botanist who authored numerous works on the classification of conifers and cypresses, fig grafting, and grapevine diseases, in addition to this work on the enology of Vesuvian grapes. This work, which focuses on grape cultivation and the varieties grown on Vesuvius, includes chapters on the Vesuvian terroir, the classification of local cultivars, cultivation techniques, and the processes required to produce excellent quality red and white wines.
