Specialist Notes
A splendid engraving in exquisitely 18th-century style, showing the unusual perspective of the Faraglione di terra from Marina Piccola. According to Heller-Andresen, it is believed to be part of a series of twelve etchings depicting Naples and its surroundings, executed in 1824. Florian Grospietsch (Protzan, 1789 – after 1833) was a German painter and engraver, active in Germany and Italy. From 1820 onwards, he spent long periods in Rome and Naples, where he devoted himself primarily to landscape painting and graphic design, showing a particular attention to atmospheric effects and the rendering of the landscape.
