Information

depicting a male divine figure, hardwood with period patina

These figures carved in relief belong to the complex Dogon mythology. They represent ancestral deities, both female and male. The Toguna is present in all Dogon villages; it is a covered area where the elders gather. The low ceiling forces them to remain seated because, according to their complex culture, seated men are less likely to argue during their heated discussions.
