Specialist Notes
Several populations live in southeastern Nigeria. Among them are the Tiv, who are probably of ancient Cameroonian origin. The statues of this population, which are relatively rare, protect individuals or families. The unique scarifications on the sides of the mouth, resembling a cat's whiskers, are indicative of this. The statue was probably a small pillar, with arms close to the body and a face with a pointed mouth decorated on the sides with typical scarifications.
