Recent studies have shown that this typology, previously attributed to Pope Leo X (ref. CNI X, p. 72 and ref. Muntoni Vol. I, pp. 127 and 128), is instead to be attributed to Pope Adrian VI. (Ref. Stefano Di Virgilio “Materiali 20”, published in the Bollettino di Numismatica of August 2014, and referring to the classification of the Collection of Vittorio Emanuele III preserved in the National Roman Museum).
