Specialist Notes
In VivaTrotsky Crepax recounts the Russian revolution in his own way, a historicalevent of which he had a thorough knowledge, and reveals all his politicalpassion for the figure and thought of Leo Trotsky. The main events of the civilwar are set on the famous "victory train" from which Trotsky is saidto have coordinated the military actions that would have led to the success ofthe revolution. Crepax imagines that on the same train Tsarists and Bolsheviksfight between wagons to take control of the train. In this page, characterizedby a close and lively sequence, Valentina is freed by a young revolutionaryjust before an explosion blows up a heterogeneous group of characters whosymbolize the main components of the decadent Tsarist imperialism.
