length 35 cm.
7-1/2" cylindrical, 44 cal. barrel octagonal at the base, provided with low white metal foresight, marked "- ADDRESS S...M.L COLT NEW YORK CITY -" and stamped "2". Bore with some pitting and encrustments which need cleaning, visible rifling. Smooth, six-shot cylinder featuring remains of engraving with clash between Dragoons and natives rolled over, still legible "W.L. Ormsby Sc. New York", "MODEL U.S.M.R.", "COLT'S PATENT" (these two inscriptions are slightly visible); two "S" marks also visible on the cylinder. Working mechanism, three snaps, working trigger safety lock. Frame marked "COLTS PATENT" and "U.S.". Rounded trigger guard with marks "8" (or “B”) and "G" on the side. Brass grip strips, no traces of finishing. Smooth walnut grip, very worn, with traces of military inspection stamps on both sides. Some pitting, signs of use and time. Matching serial number "16xxx" on barrel, cartridge rammer (shortened), lock (shortened), cylinder, pin (shortened), frame and grip bands.
