40", round, rifled barrel (clean bore, visible rifling), with foresight, adjustable rear sight in three heights with foldaway sight leaves, octagonal breech, with "V" and "P" marks surmounting eagle's head, stamp “STEEL”, date "1863". 58 cal. (14.8 mm cal. at the nozzle). The base of the piston with US eagle. Lock with full company mark and date "1863". Working mechanism. Full walnut stock with military inspection stamps on the left side and remains of other marks on the butt stock. Iron mounts. Butt plate marked "US". Three bands marked "U". Iron ramrod. Some slight pitting and signs of use to exterior iron surfaces.
