Venice, Albrizzi, 1745. In 2°. In 2°, 444 x 310 mm. Half-title, splendid, finely engraved allegorical frontispiece, frontispiece printed in red and black with a large copperplate vignette on the frontispiece depicting an allegory of the city of Venice, a portrait of Maria Theresa as a young woman drawn by Piazzetta and engraved by Polanzani, each of the 20 cantos preceded by a superb cartouche with a coat of arms and a dedication to each different figure, 20 head vignettes enclosing the Topic of the Cantos resting on rococo brackets, 20 culs-de-lampe (of which 6 are full-page), 21 historiated initials, some rare marginal foxing, elegant contemporary binding with finely gilt boards, gilt title within a tag on the spine with gilt decorations, some very slight defects. Paper bookplates by Giuseppe Bolasco di Lagorara and Rinaldo Cenni.

First edition, a perfect and very fresh copy of variant B, of one of the most beautiful illustrated books of the 18th century, with the superb Rococo-style plates designed by Giovanni Battista Piazzetta and engraved by Polanzani.
