Specialist Notes
First edition, dedicated to the Bishop of Brescia, Andrea Corner, of one of the first Italian treatises on poetics after Trissino. The work is part of the humanist debate on the autonomy of poetry from philosophy. Petrarch's notes were included in the 1541 edition, while a commentary on Dante was published posthumously in 1568. The treatise is divided into two books: the first examines the moral function and structure of poetry (invention, arrangement, elocution), while the second focuses on elocution in its various stylistic registers.
