Pietro Bigaglia (1786 - 1876) was a glass researcher and technician of extraordinary importance who contributed significantly to the renewal of the art of Venetian blown glass, in the 19th century. Among his most famous innovations was the creation of the first glass paperweights, he perfected the art of colored filigree and was the first to introduce the use of aventurine in large sections, generating complex multicolored textures. His fame was further consolidated with the presentation of the first signed and dated millefiori paperweights at the Vienna Industrial Exhibition, in 1845. Subsequently, on the occasion of the first major exhibition dedicated to Murano glass masters, held in Venice in 1864 at the Murano Glass Museum, his work was exhibited again, testifying to the lasting influence of his work in the Venetian artistic tradition
