Original comic art made by Magnus for page 11 of "The 110 Pills," first published serially in Totem Magazine in 1985. One of the most iconic works of the Bolognese master's entire oeuvre, this splendid page features the protagonist Hsi Men with his three wives: Snow Eye, Sunflower, and Golden Lotus. Based on a 16th-century Chinese erotic novel, the story tells of an Indian monk who gives Hsi Men 110 aphrodisiac pills to be used sparingly, but Hsi Men abandons himself to a life of sensual pleasure that consumes him in a few months. From the 800-page Chinese novel, Magnus summarizes the lifestyle of Hsi Men's family and meticulously describes its most erotic aspects; in 46 pages, he creates an immortal comic book published worldwide. Note that the third, fourth, and fifth panels are photocopied, a reflection of Magnus's working method, as he frequently retraced his steps and modified the drawings, sometimes forced to photocopy them after having modified them several times on the original. Slight creases at the upper corners. On two panels.
