Specialist Notes

Designed for the 1976 Formula 1 season, the Ferrari 312 T2 was an evolution of the 1975 world champion 312 T. One difference was the elimination of the large air intake behind the driver, prohibited by the regulations. Starting from the Spanish GP, Lauda and Regazzoni had the new car available. Only the accident at the German GP prevented Lauda from regaining victory in the drivers' world championship. The 312 T2 was also used in 1977 when, updated, it allowed Lauda to conquer his second championship. The T2 also took part in the first two races in 1978 before being replaced by the 312 T3. Every enthusiast would like to give their child (or themselves!) a 1:2 scale replica of this car. Reproductions of famous cars made for children are getting ever-increasing prices. Many are authentic miniature jewels, perfect replicas and some are historical reproductions, made at the time of the original versions, made even more valuable by their rarity. These conditions have made them collector's items which, as well as entertaining the lucky budding drivers, also represent an economic investment, like any authentic historic car. This car, a 1:2 scale version of the F1 Ferrari 312 T2, in the Ferrari Sefac team livery (first version) with the number 11 of Niki Lauda, 1977 world champion, is practically new, never used, with original tyres. Information about this mini-car is hard to find; it appears that a batch of five specimens was produced in 1979 by the owner of the Italy Car (the first of these for his own daughter), before the bankruptcy of the Bolognese house. It seems that one specimen was purchased by Niki Lauda himself for his son. The steering wheel and tires were produced by the same Ferrari suppliers: Momo and Goodyear. Subsequently, the Pony Car of Bologna bought the leftover parts and some chassis but managed to complete only two more specimens. Power comes from a 60 cc two-stroke BCC petrol engine; it has a two-speed gearbox and reverse, independent suspension, hydraulic disc brakes, alloy wheels, tubeless slick tyres, fiberglass bodywork. It weighs about 100 kg and is 2.40 m long. It can reach 60 km/h. It is not known how many of the original 5 cars and the 2 assembled cars have survived to the present day, other than this example.
