Information
Venice, published by Ghirardo Imberti, 1638. In 4°. Printer's device with motto on a cartouche on the title page; the volume is accompanied by engravings within the text, and a coat of arms with a cartouche at the end. Full parchment binding with a handwritten title on the spine. The last leaf is blank. Woodworms and minor defects in the binding.
Specialist Notes
An encyclopedic work ranging from history to mythology. Similar in structure to Gellius's Attic Nights, it is one of the first to present the new discoveries of Renaissance science, albeit in a completely unsystematic and cumbersome form, to a popular, non-specialist audience. It enjoyed widespread circulation throughout Europe, with dozens of editions.
